Hey, my name is Jan Adelsbach, I’m a currently 29 year old science fanatic from Saarland Germany. I have two B. Sc. (Hons) degrees:
- B. Sc. (Hons) Open
- B. Sc. (Hons) Mathematics
I’m currently studying towards a MSc. Computer Science degree.
I work as research associate at an university institute and as an allrounder at a marketing agency.

Education
University
My specialities are mathematical optimization and numerical algorithms. Though I also specialized in quantum mechanics and electromagnetism as part of my studies.

My Facilities
Datacenter
Since fall 2009 I have a dedicated G.SHDSL (since 2017 or so it’s symmetric ADSL) internet connection for my basement based datacentre which I use to host my private endeavors including this website.
Also I do have two Silicon Graphic Origin 2000 Supercomputers. They work fine but I don’t usually power them up especially since they take a tremendous amount of energy (that’s for one module out of two in a rack! And there is also the MMSC controller and a disk array per rack with their own power supplies as well) and heat up the rooms quite fast. For playing with IRIX I have a smaller Origin 200 as well however.

Workshop
I have a small metal working workshop, consiting of:
- Mill with DRO (SK30)
- Lathe (⌀180mm, l=400mm)
- Drill Press (MK2)
- Metal Band Saw
- Sheet Bender/Cutter/Roller (250mm)
- Sheet Bender (600mm)
Microscopy
I have a small microscopy lab consisting of multiple bright and darkfield microscopes, a polarization microscope, an inverted microscope and two stereo microscopes. I also have phase contrast accessories.
Astronomy
I have a 160/900mm Newton Reflector and an older 1960’s japanese 60/700mm Tasco Refractor.
Electronics
I have everything required for electronics with exception of a good LCR meter and a spectrum analyzer.
